That desire to do what is right is what being a hero is all about. I want you to go and talk to a hero... Go ahead. Go find one. What's that? You can't seem to find a hero anywhere? Talk to anyone people say is a hero and the "hero" will say right away that they aren't one. That they were just doing what is right. The person who walked by when someone was being attacked and did something. A person who stood up for what is right in today's world ranging various topics and situations.
The anti hero would be apathy. Apathy is a lack of feeling, emotion, interest and concern. Apathy is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation, and/or passion. An apathetic individual has an absence of interest in or concern about emotional, social, spiritual, philosophical and/or physical life and the world. An apathetic person will not do what is right when the time comes. They will make a choice to either deny its existence or come to the conclusion that they can't make a difference anyway. So calls go unanswered. Crime goes unchecked. People fall into despair. And people are no longer concerned with what is truly right. Truly right.
The indifference of apathy can seed itself from a personal trauma that someone could have experienced. It also can become defined by the general populace. If enough people say "this is right" or "that is wrong" we can start to believe it ourselves and herein lies an issue with becoming a hero. What do you base your belief on? A code? A feeling? Common sense? Our belief should be based off of the word of God. Yep. I said it. No greater example has there been in all of history than Jesus Christ. "No greater love has anyone than this, than to lay down your life for a friend." John 15:13. To do what is right goes against what a lot of people in this world shout. Sure they may shout it in the guise of freedom, social rights or war but at its core is what they are shouting for truly right? Truly right? Answers are tough to come by, and for those I urge you to dig into the word of God. Simple truths, rights and wrongs are in there. Examples of both. Everything from a wacked out king (King Saul) who was obsessed with killing his friend (David) because he was a better leader than him. To a situation where race, culture, & belief took a back seat to do what is right for someone in need (Good Samaritan). Down to Jesus rescuing a woman who was about to be stoned by some religious leaders.
Maybe you aren't interested in being a hero. Allot of people aren't. That doesn't matter. When the time comes will you be ready to make the call for what you know in your heart is truly right?
To be a hero, you have search for what is truly right.
